Tom Cruise has been trying to get his film project, which was supposed to be shot in space, off the ground since 2020, but according to a source, it was shelved because the actor “did not want to ask Trump for a favor”.

The Hollywood star was producing the feature alongside Doug Liman, director of “Edge of Tomorrow”.
According to Page Six, Tom Cruise would need to contact SpaceX and NASA in order to film scenes in space. For that to happen, Cruise would have had to reach out to Donald Trump.
“From what I understand, they would need NASA’s coordination to make the film, and reportedly Tom Cruise did not want to ask Donald Trump for a favor. ‘Permission from the federal government would be required’,” the source said.
The project had received support from NASA and SpaceX in 2020, when Joe Biden was president.
NASA’s chief at the time, Jim Bridenstein, shared on his X profile that he was excited about Tom Cruise’s idea.
“We need popular media to inspire a new generation of engineers and scientists to make NASA’s ambitious plans a reality,” he wrote.
Despite the enthusiasm, the actor “did not want to ask [for authorization] for political reasons”.
